There are a number of ferries serving the greater Vancouver area. BC Ferries to Vancouver Island leave from Horseshoe Bay north of Vancouver and from Tsawwassen south of Vancouver.

The BC ferries serving Vancouver Island from the mainland are full service vessels, which carry automobiles and passengers. They are well equipped with restaurants and comfortable seating.Horseshoe Bay, has routes to Nanaimoon Vancouver Island and to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island.The terminal is busy on holidays, weekends and during popular crossing times in the summer so plan ahead .

Tsawwassen, 30 minutes south of Vancouver, is the lower mainland's principal ferry port, with regular services to and from Vancouver Island to Swartz Bay (north of Victoria), Nanaimo and the Gulf Islands.
