Port Angeles

Port Angeles, the largest city on the northern Olympic Peninsula,is a seaport on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Ediz Hook protects the harbor for ocean freighters, fishing vessels and ferries. Two ferries carry passengers between Port Angeles and the Canadian city of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Black Ball Transport's Coho Ferry takes cars and passengers between Port Angeles and Victoria B.C. year round. This ferry does not take reservations, so show up early. Victoria Rapid Transit's Victoria Express passenger-only ferry takes reservations at 800-633-1589.

Near the downtown ferry dock you will enjoy a visit to the Marine Laboratory on the Port Angeles City Pier. The Lab has a fascinating collection of marine life from local bays. There are "hands-on" exhibits you can touch and feel.

Your visit to Port Angeles should include a trip into the Olympic National Park. The entrance to the park is up Race Street off Highway 101 and is well marked. Displays of natural life and artifacts include an original log cabin disassembled in the mountains and rebuilt here.

Check in with Olympic Raft and Guide Service for outdoor adventures on the peninsula.

The best views of Mt. Olympus, the glaciers and the high country of the Park can be seen from Hurricane Ridge,an easy 17 mile drive up the road. The drive up to the Lodge, at 5,200 feet, offers spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island.
