Forks


Forks, the midway point of the Olympic Peninsula, is true to its history of being the meeting place and the supply headquarters between the forks of the Calawah and the Bogachiel Rivers. It is 56 miles from Port Angeles and 109 miles from Aberdeen.

This timbering and recreational center lies in the middle of world-famous steelhead rivers, close to herds of elk and deer who graze in some of the most rugged hunting country in the Northwest. Forks lies minutes away from great beach combing areas ­p; Ruby Beach, Mora and La Push.

North of Forks on Highway 101 is the regional office for the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service. The Department of Natural Resources also has an office in Forks.

For hungry travelers and outdoors adventures Pacific Pizza right on Highway 101 promotes " the best pan pizza in the west".

For accommodations in Forks, try the Forks Motel , Huckleberry Lodge or the Pacific Inn Motel on Hwy 101 downtown. The Forks Logging Museum pays tribute to the town's history as a major tree-growing area for state, federal and private concerns. Visit the museum for an interesting display of local logging history.

The town hosts the annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July and Hickory Shirt Days in Oct. where tourist families may enter the parade, eat Indian barbecued salmon and cheer on working loggers showing off their daily working skills.

Huckleberry Lodge is located in Forks, on 5 acres surrounded by trees at the end of a private road. The lodge is made up of 3 guest rooms in the main lodge and 2 guest cottages. For anglers, fishing packages can be arranged which include meals, accommodations and guide service. In addition to fishing, Bed and Breakfast guests have access to the Calawah River, a hot tub and sauna, bird watching and maybe even a glimpse of the local herd of 26 elk that graze in the surrounding pastures.
