Edmonds
Edmonds, often described as "Carmel like" , is known for
local artists, writers, art galleries and antique stores. Located 20 minutes
north of downtown Seattle, Edmonds has been known as the Gateway to the Olympic
Peninsula since the first ferry, City of Edmonds, began service to Kingston on
the Kitsap Peninsula in 1923.
Edmonds has ferry access across Puget Sound to and from Kingston on the
Kitsap Peninsula. The ferry terminal can be busy, especially during commuter
hours and on weekends. If traveling by ferry during those times, plan ahead and
expect to wait in line. There are a number of restaurants within walking
distance of the ferry terminal.
The waterfront area offers something for everyone. There are 3 beaches to
stroll, all designated marine life sanctuaries. Visit Brackett's Landing Park,
just north of the ferry terminal, where you can view tidal pools, listen to sea
lions barking from the jetty or watch divers who come to explore Edmonds
Underwater Park, oldest on the west coast.
Edmonds is home to the largest charter fleet on Puget Sound and has a 1000
boat marina. A short walk east from the waterfront along flower-lined
streets, brings you to the business district where you'll find Old Mill town, a
" must see" attraction at the corner of 5th and Dayton.
For accommodations in Edmonds check out the Edmonds Harbor Inn close to the
ferry terminal. Call (206) 771-5021.
The Edmonds Arts Festival, the Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration and the
Taste of Edmonds, held the second weekend in August, draws visitors from the
surrounding areas. Edmonds has been voted the friendliest city in Washington
several years running
