Anacortes
Anacortes is located on Fidalgo Island, the first of the San Juan Islands, approximately half way between Seattle (80 mi. to the south)and Vancouver, B.C. (90 mi. to the north). The city is a working seaport at the western terminus of state
highway 20. Bounded on three sides by Puget Sound, the town has marinas full of commercial and pleasure boats.
The deep water seaport accommodates ocean-going vessels. Thousands of recreational boaters depart from Anacortes for cruising and sailing
the San Juan Islands. The city has acres of parks, miles of shoreline and 7 nearby lakes.
You drive through Anacortes to get to the Washington State Ferry terminal for connections to the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island. If you traveling to or from Vancouver Island, you need to go through customs. Drive into the old part of Anacortes for what seems like a living museum, with interest
ing historical buildings, murals and a glimpse of the city's past.
For accommodations and information in Anacortes and Fidalgo Island check into the Anacortes Inn, Fidalgo Country Inn, Marina Inn and the Ship Harbor Inn.
For a fun trip to the
islands, leave your car in Anacortes and rent a bicycle to take aboard the ferry. Exploring the islands by bicycle can be fun.
You do not have to wait in line for the ferry, because bicycles always get on the ferry.
